Details of June 2008 Fitness weekend

This is to be held in East Sussex/Kent over the weekend 21st/22nd June.

Arrival at Frant Place on Saturday morning 21st June at 9.30, day/evening (including dinner) at Frant Place, overnight stay (Saturday) and fitness tests (Sunday) at Holmewood House School, Langton Green, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN3 0EB, and departure from Holmewood House School following the fitness tests on the Sunday.

A quick reminder to bring at least two sets of old clothes; also clothing for training/fitness work, including running shoes (not spikes), a water bottle, snacks, swimming costume and towel. Also night wear, toothbrush etc.

Please do not bring any valuables - there will not be time to watch DVDs, etc.  iPods etc are not allowed during the fitness testing.

We are looking forward very much to welcoming Gareth Trayner, new Head Coach, to his first session with the team.  NPPM Duncan Freshwater will be present throughout the weekend - as will Amanda Pirie, former GBR team member.

We are also delighted that current senior team members Ed Drake and Dave Ryding have agreed to join us for the weekend to work alongside the athletes, and to talk about the long-term aims for the future.

As part of a BOA initiative aimed at motivation and inspiration, and also to give some hints on how to stay in for the long haul towards Olympic representation, we are delighted that we will have a British Olympic bronze medal canoeist to give a talk on Saturday morning to the athletes.

For the adults we will have a fairly brief introduction from myself, Gareth Trayner (Head Coach) and Duncan Freshwater (National Pathways & Performance Manager), followed by a talk on marketing and publicity by Dave Richardson.  Dave is a former BCST parent (so he knows the difficulties as well as the pleasures!).  He will be talking parents through the very important ways and means of building a publicity portfolio, and how to take this further to a professional approach to potential personal sponsors.  Previous generations of BCST parents have learned and profited from Dave's expertise in this crucial area!

We would aim to start this not long after 9.30, and should be finished by about 11.  We hope that as many of you as possible will stay for this session.  There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions about the programme, management, selection, or any other aspect of the BCST.  Dream up all the difficult ones for us now - this is your chance to put us on the spot!

A quick final reminder that we must specifically ask parents not to be present for the fitness testing session on the Sunday.  This is for child welfare reasons.  Photography is also not permitted during these sessions, for the same reasons.

We are very grateful to Lord and Lady Moynihan for hosting this camp, in conjunction with Holmewood House School - many thanks to the Headmaster.
