Club
and Private Coaches All club and private
coaches are welcome on race and training camps. They will be asked to pay
their own way in full and work within the programme set by the lead coach on the
camp. Sufficient advance notice
must be given to allow for full vetting procedures according to SnowsportGB’s
Child Protection Policy. This
includes any coaches who do not have British nationality.
Adequate notification of attendance must also be given to allow for
logistical arrangements to be made. During training camps,
these coaches should expect to work as members of the coaching team using their
own skills in setting courses, fitness and all aspects of coaching. An
alternative role can be discussed and agreed before training so everyone is
clear of what is expected when they start to work.
Any differences in opinion must be dealt with in a professional manner
off the hill when possible, and
definitely away from the athletes. In
the event that any such difference of opinion cannot be resolved by discussion,
the final decision will be made by the lead coach on the camp. At a camp where selection procedures are to be undertaken, any club or private coach who has a vested interest in one or more of the athletes should remain distant from these procedures, both on the hill and in relation to any discussion. At a race camp, it is
understood that the private coach will want to work largely (and probably
exclusively) with his/her own athlete(s) on race days.
However, attendance at the full camp will be expected, and the athlete
will be expected to follow the full preparatory programme as set by the lead
coach on the trip. It may not be
possible to make arrangements for the extra accommodation for the coach at the
international venues, and they will normally be expected to make their own
bookings. Assistance will of course
be given where possible. Feedback to all coaches
can be obtained from Snowsport GB after the trip. Ross Gardner Head Coach, British Children’s Team October 2004 |
