Pinzolo again, just down the road from Madonna di Campiglio.
Early lack of snow had persuaded the organisers to move the race from
last year's piste onto more gentle terrain where conditions were better.
The GS slope was extremely flat, but the snow remained good and firm for
all competitors.
Three
training days instead of just one gave time for assessment of each athlete by
the two coaches. It also allowed for
acclimatisation, and a certainly more relaxed approach to the races.
There was clear improvement all round with the extra time to settle in.
Again
a large entry - approximately 340 athletes from 43 nations.
Single GS run in each age group.
Austria
won the team competition with ease.
Several disqualifications on height of bindings, and a demonstration of the
equipment used to measure boot sole height - quite a few teams discover that
their athletes had boots that did not meet the regulations.
Our best
result was Brett Haney's 14th place in Slalom (Ch.II Boys).
Good luck at the Whistler Cup!
The
two coaches deserve enormous praise and thanks for all their hard work and
highly professional management of the team.
It was a source of great pleasure and pride to be part of that set-up -
many thanks to both of them.
We
all felt that we had a delightful, strong and dedicated team - there were no
concerns regarding behaviour or application, and all gave of their best.
Well done!
