Overnight stay at Heathrow, BA flight to Istanbul .  Extremely full transfer coach with Bulgaria and Ukraine .  Long transfer – 6 hours, including car ferry.  Stayed once again at the Hotel Agaoglu, just a short walk from the bottom of the slopes.  Wonderful opening ceremony.  Note for next year – swimming costumes essential.  The hotel has a superb new pool area.

Excellent courses this year, and well-prepared pistes.

  • Dan Palmer - Gold in Slalom

  • Adam Gellatly - Bronze in Slalom

  • 'TJ' Baldwin - Silver in Slalom

  • Ellie Dalton - Silver in GS

  • Sophie 4th place in GS - unlucky to miss out on bronze by only 0.08 sec.

We were delighted to win 2nd place in the Boys’ competition, and 3rd Overall, behind Bulgaria and Yugoslavia .

We again spent most of the last day in Istanbul ,  visiting the Blue Mosque, Yeren Batan (the underground water palace), a traditional tea garden and various markets.  The main covered bazaar was closed (Sunday).  The girls enjoyed a Turkish bath, whilst the boys drank apple tea with traditional Turkish music and dancing (with participation!).  We stayed overnight in a hotel in Sultanahmet - the 'Obelisk and Sumengen' - and arranged a coach transfer to the airport the following morning.

I couldn’t fault the effort and enthusiasm, and indeed behaviour, of all team members at all times.

Many thanks to the two trainers – they worked extremely hard both on and off the hill to ensure the best possible results for the team.
