CZECH REPUBLIC 2006 - Czech National Championships

24-25 January, 2006

Day 1 - Slalom:  Two Podium Places for GBR!!

  • Jack Evans - 1st - a 0.63 sec lead after the first run put Jack in a commanding position, and his second run consolidated his winning position.

  • Harry Brown - 3rd - Lying 7th after the first run, Harry put in a storming run on the steep to jump into another podium place for GBR

  • The remainder put in solid performances, notable amongst them being Nick Robinson (lying in second place after the first run) who did not finish the second, and Sam Wrench, 5th after the first run, again DNF run2.

  • It was a challenging day!  The first run inspection of the ChII event revealed a piste of steep and bullet-proof ice.  The jury agreed that it was not suitable, and the event was moved to another slope - from one extreme to another.  The first run for ChII took place on a flat slope, with soft snow, and with a very open set.  For the second run they moved back to steep and icy!

  • Ch1 raced both runs on the flatter softer slope, but they too had a difficult day - all the delays added up, and they did not take to the piste until 2.30.  As the sun set the temperature plummeted, and the light was fading fast in the later stages of the second run!

  • All credit to the organisers for their determination to run these championships, and to our athletes for their stamina and determination!

  • And Harriet was ill...

Day 2 - Giant Slalom - a second podium place for Jack!

  • Jack Evans - 3rd
  • Harry Brown - 4th
  • Jayme Baggio - 6th - two good runs, her second one having the third fastest time
  • Top 10 places for Nick Robinson and Sam Wrench (8th and 9th respectively)
  • A better day all round, with all races taking place on the steeper FIS hill.  Hard work overnight by the organising committee had completely changed the conditions on the slope, and well-set courses gave a fair and good chance to all racers.
  • A promising start for our younger athletes...
