BCST Sanctions and Disciplinary Procedures See also Code of Conduct This notice explains the procedures that must be followed in respect of an athlete who has committed a serious breach of the Code of Conduct. It does not cover minor problems of discipline, although in some cases where such breaches of discipline are recurring and persistent it may eventually be felt appropriate to invoke one or more of the sanctions outlined below.
These are formal procedures, and must be
conducted appropriately. Each and
every hearing should be attended by at least two of the Management Team, and the
athlete should if at all possible be represented by an adult. The athlete must be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations. Unacceptable behaviour of any sort must be assessed, and normal procedure would be to go through the list of possible sanctions starting from 1. Verbal warning. If, however, the alleged offence is
considered to be of sufficient severity to warrant one of the more severe
sanctions (level 4, 5 or 6), it may be necessary to move immediately to that sanction. In such an instance, the Performance Director of the BSSF
must be contacted to explain the particular circumstances. At each stage it is imperative that the
level and detail of the sanction imposed must be explained clearly to the
athlete, and he/she must be warned of the next step that may be taken in
case of further misdemeanour. The
athlete’s representative must also be advised, and it may be sensible to
contact a parent/guardian if this is at all feasible and practical. It is imperative that procedures should be followed correctly and that a written record should be kept of all disciplinary hearings and of the measures taken (accompanied by written confirmation from at least one other member of the Management Team), and the Manager must include this in his/her report after the event. |
